Other activities

I work as a volunteer at the South Bay Studio of Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic.

Most of the work involves reading high school and college textbooks onto digital recordings. All recording is done in response to specific requests from blind or dyslexic people. Typically you volunteer for one two-hour session per week. If you think you might be interested, call the local studio at 800-RFB-TEXT to set up an orientation session, where a staff members shows you around and describes the work for about 20 minutes.

When you've sat through someone reading descriptions of charts and graphs, you realize it's going to be a long time before Kurzweil machines are good for much beyond newspapers, magazines, and novels.

I work as a Unix System Administrator, with emphasis in storage area networks, at Northrop Grumman Corp in El Segundo, California.. Formerly I worked at the Sun Microsystems Los Angeles Software Center and at Xerox Corp. in El Segundo.
