Guided Backpack/National Park Service/Wupatki National Monument

Crack-in-Rock Ruin/Flagstaff, Arizona

This excursion is a weekend backpack of approximately sixteen miles round-trip to one of Wupatki National Monumentís more spectacular ruins, located in an area of the park that is administratively closed to entry the rest of the year. You will be responsible for furnishing your own backpacking equipment, food and water. No water is available at the ruin or along the way. The hike is cross-country over rough terrain and is considered relatively strenuous.

Registration is by lottery so that all individuals and groups stand an equal chance of selection for the trips. The maximum group size per trip is twenty-five. To allow everyone a fair chance, party size is limited to ten.

We have tentatively selected the following date choices in 1992: (1) April 11-12; (2) April 25-26; (3) April 18-19; (4) April 4-5. The park service will make the final decision on date.

We will plan to carpool from the South Bay on the Friday before the hike and return on Sunday afternoon/Monday after the hike.

Please contact Tom Irby at 310 540-3724 or BIrby:ES AE if you are interested in participating in this hike.
