Catalina Island Camp-Out Little Fisherman's Cove

Friday, May 15 - Sunday, May 17, 1992

Brief: A weekend camp-out at Two Harbors on Catalina Island. The campsite is 0.25 mile from the boat landing. Some optional day hikes will be arranged, fishing and swimming are also possible. There is space on this trip for 36 people, preference will be given to current XMBC members.

When: The boat leaves San Pedro Friday, May 15 at 6:30 pm. All campers must be at the dock no later than 5:30 pm. We will return from Two Harbors on the 6:30 pm boat Sunday, May 17. The channel crossing is approximately 90 minutes.

Cost & Reservations: The cost for the boat trip is $26.50 per person (both ways), the camping fee is $13 per person for both nights, for a total cost per person of $39.50. This trip has filled up quickly in the past, therefore, payment must be received with your reservation to insure a space on the trip. Reservations and payments must be received no later than April 24. Out of fairness to all members, no reservations will be accepted prior to April 3rd. Preference will be given to XMBC members first, after that it will be on a first money received basis.

Details: Baggage allotment is 50 pounds max per person, 2 pieces per person, and pieces must be less than 18" in two dimensions. Backpacks are OK. Coast Guard regulations prohibit propane, charcoal, gas stoves, and lanterns. Propane stoves with no fuel are OK, propane and charcoal are available for purchase at Two Harbors. Otherwise, bring the usual camping equipment. I think we can expect warm days and possibly cool evenings.

Accommodations: At the campsite there are tables, fire rings, barbecues, running water, pit toilets, and cold showers. In Two Harbors there are public rest rooms and hot, coin-operated showers. If you'd rather not cook, food service is available in Two Harbors, the grill is open for breakfast and lunch, and Doug's Harbor Reef Restaurant and Saloon is open for dinner. The general store is also well stocked with various items.

Directions: Take the Harbor Freeway south and exit at Harbor Blvd. Straight through the light is the parking lot for the Catalina Air and Sea Terminal. Meet in the terminal at 5:30 pm Friday to pick up your tickets from the leader.
