Catalina Island Camp-Out Little Harbor

Friday, May 20 - Sunday, May 22, 1994

Brief: A long weekend camp-out at Little Harbor on Catalina Island. The campsite is on the west side of the island. We will be taking the boat to Two Harbors via Avalon, and then taking the charter bus from Two Harbors to Little Harbor. Some optional day hikes will be arranged, fishing and swimming are also possible. There is space on this trip for 20 to 30 people, preference will be given to current XMBC members.

When: The boat leaves Long Beach Friday, May 20 at 9:00 AM. We will be leaving Little Harbor on Sunday, May 22 in time to catch the 3:30 PM boat from Two Harbors to Long Beach, arriving in Long Beach approx 5:00 PM.

Cost & Reservations: The cost for the boat trip is $21.00 per person (both ways), the camping fee is $14 per person for both nights, and the charter bus is $17.30 for a total cost per person of $52.30. This trip has filled up quickly in the past, therefore, payment must be received to insure a space on the trip. For reservations, call or message a leader as soon as possible; to confirm the reservation, payment must be received no later than May 6. Preference will be given to XMBC members first, after that it will be on a first money received basis.

Details: Baggage allotment is 50 pounds max per person, 2 pieces per person, and pieces must be less than 18" in two dimensions. Backpacks are OK. Coast Guard regulations prohibit propane, charcoal, gas stoves, and lanterns. Propane stoves with no fuel are OK, propane and charcoal are available for purchase at Two Harbors. Otherwise, bring the usual camping equipment. I think we can expect warm days and possibly cool evenings.

Accommodations: At the campsite there are tables, fire rings, barbecues, running water, pit toilets, and cold showers. No other services are available, so all food and equipment must be brought in. There will be time on Friday after landing at Two Harbors to have lunch at the restaurant (if you wish), and to buy fuel and other items at the store.
