Temecula Valley Wine Country’s 5th Annual Barrel Tasting Unofficial Car Camp

Friday evening, Friday February 4 through Sunday February 6.

Brief: Friday Evening: Find a campground (either Dripping Springs or Oak Grove depending on vacancies)

Saturday and Sunday - Wine tasting

What: Temecula Valley Wine Country’s 5th Annual Barrel tasting will be held on Saturday, February 5 and Sunday, February 6, 1994. The valley’s wineries will offer tank and barrel samples on their wines and festive foods paired with their wines each day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $25.00 per person. This is an opportunity to taste wines still aging, from barrels and tanks (Wines before their time).

At the Barrel Tasting, the winemakers and winery owners are there to meet you and answer any questions you may have.

Because of the additional charge for the Barrel Tasting, this is a XBMC non-sponsored event

Pre-sale tickets will be mailed to all who purchase their tickets on or before January 27th. After this date, tickets will be held in Will call. You begin Saturday by picking up your souvenir wine glass at Callaway Vineyard and Winery, and then follow the map on your ticket. You are on your own to visit the wineries at your leisure over the next two days.

For those planning to attend this event, it is your responsibility to purchase the tickets for the barrel tasting. Advance purchase tickets ($25.00 per person) may be obtained from TVVA (Temecula Valley Vintners Association), P.O. Box 1601, Temecula, CA 92593-1601. Your remittance should be made out to TVVA and include your return address.

Where: Temecula is located in Riverside County off Interstate 15 near Vail Lake and Julian is located in San Diego County off Routes 78/79.

When: Friday February 4. It is recommend that you drive to the Campground Friday night. There will be a campsite fee, the amount is dependent upon how many participants. It shouldn’t be any more than $7.50. Both Jack and Carolee, and Richard and Laurie will be travelling out to the campground areas early Friday to obtain a campsite at either Dripping Springs or Oak Grove. Dripping Springs fills up early because it’s closest to Temecula.

We will attempt to locate into Dripping Springs first, if unsuccessful there, we will go out to Oak Grove.

Who: The wine tasting is open anyone who are of legal drinking age.

Warning: There are snakes and spiders in the area, around the campsite.

Bring:Wine Tasting: Money!!! for those wines you want to get.

Weather: The weather can be unpredictable. The daytime temperatures can range from mid 50’s to mid 80’s. The evening temperature drops quickly as the sun sets. The temperature can go as low as 28 to 30 degrees.

Directions:From LA follow the 91 Freeway east to the 15 Freeway south. Follow the 15 to Temecula. From San Diego follow the 15 Freeway north to Temecula. From either direction exit at the Temecula - Indio exit, route 79. Follow 79 east for approximately 6 miles to Dripping Springs Campground (entrance on right side of road) or 25 miles to Oak Grove (entrance on left side of road). From 15 you will pass through Dripping Springs, Radec, and Aguanga. As you approach Oak Grove there will be a campground on your left. (Oak Grove Campground) When you enter either campground, check the campground bulletin board to see if we are there and if so, what campsite Look for the XMBC signs. Depending on the number of interested parties, we will probably reserve 2 sites, this will allow 6 vehicles for the entire group. Allow yourself at least 2.5-3.5 hours driving time from the El Segundo area and allow 1- 1.5 hours from Scripps Ranch.
