Route and Highlights

This should be a pleasant beginner dayhike with good views of Palm Springs, San Gorgonio, and the surrounding area. The trip actually begins at the tramway in Palm Springs, with an elevation of 2,643 feet. Once we have reached the top of the Tramway we will be at an elevation of 8516 feet. We will be hiking with other XMBC members who will be camping thru Sunday at a campground approximately 3 miles from the tramway. Our elevation gain will be approx’ly 600 feet, which puts us at 9100 feet. We will observe how a campsite is established. This is an excellent opportunity for those unfamiliar with backpacking / camping to see how it’s done. The backpackers plan to set up camp, eat lunch and may take a short hike in the afternoon. We will stay at the campsite thru lunch then head back to the tramway. For dinner we will have the option to eat at the restaurant at the top of the tramway or return to Palm Springs.

Some of us are planning to stay in Palm Springs (from Friday night thru Sunday morning) at
The Travelodge, 333 E Palm Canyon Dr., 1-800-255-3050
The rates are: $39 / nite (less 10% for AAA members)
